The court house in the wind city / the water city

 

 

Chicago is a metropolis where 2.9 million citizens live in 590km². It consists of a well-known image of skyscrapers beside river on central district and surrounding areas. In other hand, the city is very rich in street gang history and it still has shown higher crime ratio than national’s though the Chicago criminal count was down for every years.

I set on the location has 2 convenient parking areas of total 225,000 sq feet beside of Loop (Loop is a nickname of railway on Chicago) moreover it connects between of a central district and west side district via a bridge for ensure maximum accessibility. This location is 523yd far from another bridge and give a chance for a vivid relationship of two area where have different features.

 

And this building has a topographical benefit for adjust a suitable temperature upon the Chicago River. (Water has a bigger specific heat point than ground)

Another name of Chicago is ‘Wind city’; it’s the humid continental climate, its character is the strongest wind from north with heavy snow on winter. The typical box building has a heavy load from snowfall. The arch bridge is more structural form for patient of snowfall; it also makes a minimum roof surface has a steep slant. And north side of building has a curved block like shell shape for protect against winter wind, it concentrates on wind to the wind turbine on top. It makes a sufficient building as mentioned by the Leed.

Already various skyscrapers were a popular image in Chicago however if a horizontal designed outstanding form is easier recognized to citizen.

It has a façade on south for natural sun lighting by glass, the lighting is adjusting by 1600 power shade (Kawneer product) is installed photovoltaic cells which sets each floor level. It trace on direction of sunshine, it gets maximum electric and shading for energy efficient.

 

The ground level definitely serves pedestrians by enough places for resting and a moving road but the user of court house has to check for prove an identification from the security boxes are located two sides reached the entrance. The machine room and electric room are located the basement level, there is an independent space from upper floors for block the noise made by machine. And the soil pipe and the water pipe are connected the heat generator on basement, It can be pumped upwards to heat the building, or to cool it via an absorption cooling plant. Three court rooms support floors structurally, it shows a remarkable form. It has 3 entrances for specific users (Judge, Jury and clerk, Media and public) and it shows that is a place for justice to pedestrian who look up his face. 

 

This is a new bridge for serve the site and community and also has the local identity of justice and the preeminent symbol of authority in Chicago.
